Product Description

Arctic Blackcurrant Seed CO₂ Extract is an ultra-concentrated botanical oil produced through supercritical fluid extraction – an advanced method that captures the full lipid spectrum of blackcurrant seeds (Ribes nigrum) while preserving heat-sensitive compounds. The result is a pale yellow to golden oil with a sharp, tangy note at first that has undertones of sweet blackcurrant. Do note that this product is not intended for use as a fragrance – the scent quickly dissipates and disappears in creams and balms. It is used for its beneficial skin-conditioning properties.

The supercritical CO₂ extracted Blackcurrant Seed Oil makes up 99.8% of the product. At this concentration, it delivers an intense dose of essential fatty acids, naturally occurring vitamin E (tocopherols), phytosterols, and other beneficial lipid compounds at a fraction of the inclusion rate required for cold-pressed seed oils.

0.2% Rosemary Antioxidant is added to retard oxidation and extend the keeping qualities. The Rosemary Antioxidant used consists of 0.07% Rosemary Leaf Extract in 0.13% Sunflower Oil to make it pourable.

Because of its high concentration, the extract is perfect for minimalist serums, targeted eye oils, booster drops, and facial treatments designed to soothe, replenish, and revitalise stressed skin.

The product can become thicker if stored in a cold area. It simply needs to be warmed gently by holding the bottle in your hand or putting it in some warm water.

Cold-Climate Origins

Blackcurrants thrive in harsh northern environments where cold winters and challenging growing conditions contribute to the development of robust protective compounds in the plant. These conditions enhance the concentration of beneficial lipids in the seeds, resulting in a fatty acid profile that helps protect them from temperature swings and environmental stress. Why CO2 Extraction for Arctic Blackcurrant Extract?

Supercritical CO₂ extraction uses pure, pressurised carbon dioxide to isolate lipophilic and other volatile compounds in a very safe and effective way. The low extraction temperature and oxygen-free system minimises thermal and oxidative stress, which results in an ultra-natural composition with superior purity.

This extraction process ensures there are no solvent residues, no inorganic salts, and no heavy metals – delivering a true-to-nature extract while maintaining the integrity of heat-sensitive plant compounds.

Note: CO₂ Extraction is now being used as an extraction process for some vegetable oils as well. In such instances, the CO₂ extraction is just another form of extraction like the vegetable oil being cold pressed or heat extracted. It results in a good quality vegetable oil, but it is NOT the same as these Botanical CO₂ Extracts which are super concentrated and need to be used at very small percentages.
